Fairmont Waterfront Review – Amazing View Upgrade!

Ready for a Fairmont Waterfront review of our recent stay? You might have read our recent review of the breakfast at the Fairmont Waterfront but in this post we’d like to give you our honest review of it staying at the hotel!

CHECKING IN & FAIRMONT WATERFRONT FHR PERKS

Fairmont Waterfront Front Desk

Once again, we booked our hotel through American Express’ Fine Hotel and Resort (FHR) program. This program is exclusive to American Express Platinum and Centurion cards but it is unlocks very nice perks. For this hotel stay, we recevied the following perks:

  • Room upgrade
  • Daily breakfast for two people
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout
  • Noon check-in, when available
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • $100 USD food and beverage credit to be used during your stay

If you’re into traveling and want to unlock unique perks at hotels across the globe, consider signing up for the card. It is VERY worth getting the card to unlock these perks.

Checking into the hotel was very easy. We arrived at 12 noon sharp to take advantage of early check-in and were told our room was ready. The hotel staff went though our FHR benefits for staying at the Fairmont Waterfront. We were happy to know that we got a room upgrade. Since this was a Canadian property, the $100 USD food and beverage credit would be converted to $120 CAD for us to use.

We’re so happy that Wi-Fi is included in the FHR benefits as Wi-Fi isn’t free here. I would have been pretty salty if I had to pay for Wi-Fi out of my own pocket!

THE ROOM

View from the 23rd Floor

Ok, we can’t do a Fairmont Waterfront review without showing you the room! We were upgraded to the highest floor (23rd) and greeted with a spectacular view of the harbour and Canada Place. It felt like we were on top of the world.

Welcome Gifts

We really like it when hotels leave us welcome gifts upon check-in! These lovely chocolates and honey were a very nice treat to receive.

We opted for the Fairmont City View Room which is the cheapest room they offered. It wasn’t super luxurious or big but for a staycation, it was good enough. The nice view of the waterfront made up for shortcomings in the room!

Desk Area

There is a desk area if you’d like to do some work. However, some of the chargers in the charging station in the desk didn’t work.

There’s plenty of storage area in this hotel room. We also liked the little bench where you could sit to put your shoes on or put your stuff on if you run out of storage. We requested a doggy bed for Truffle which they had ready when we arrived. Dogs stay free here at the Fairmont Waterfront which was very nice for us dog owners.

Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and presentable. Not a very big bathroom but it has a bath you could either shower or take a long bath in. They also leave plush robes for you to use.

THE HEATED OUTDOOR POOL

We made our way to the pool. The Fairmont Waterfront advertises that their pool temperature is perfect all year round. In the winter, the water is heated. We went in the middle of December and while the temperature in the water is indeed perfect, it is quite the shock whenever you’re out of the water. We’re not sure this is a great place to swim in the winter. There is an indoor hot tub but it was quite full when we were there and we opted to take a pass on it.

OVERALL

We enjoyed our little staycation at the Fairmont Waterfront. It is a very solid 4 star hotel. There are little areas of improvement but overall, you do get a nice bang for your buck if you stay here with the American Express FHR benefits to elevate your experience. Give it a try and let us know how you like it!
